The USB to RS-232 (9-pin Serial Port) Converter is an intelligent, stackable expansion module that allows connection of any GPS unit to the USB port of a PC when used with the appropriate PC serial interface cable. For use with GARMIN's eMap or eTrex series, either the eMap/eTrex PC Interface Cable or eMap/eTrex Combination Cable is also required. Other GARMIN units require the PC Interface Cable or PC Combination Cable to connect the GPS to the Converter Cable. Magellan units require either the Magellan PC Data Cable or Combination Cable. The Converter connects to a PC USB port or USB hub via the USB port, providing one RS-232 (male) serial port. The converter allows connectivity for GPS units to newer PCs that do not have serial ports and will support transfer rates from 1200 to 115.2 baud. The Converter DOES NOT provide USB-speed data transfer rates. For USB-speed programming of GARMIN data cards use the USB Data Card Programmer. The 1.8 m cable has a USB plug on one end (to connect to the PC) and a serial connector on other (to accept the serial plug on the cable from the GPS unit). Does not provide direct connection between GPS and PC. Minimum System Requirements:• Pentium-class processor • CD-ROM drive (to load drivers)• Mouse or other pointing device• Available USB Serial Bus port (USB), Type A (downstream) • Windows 98, Windows ME or Windows 2000 operating system. The Beta Windows XP driver available for download from this page MAY enable this Converter to work with your XP system, but please refer to the cautionary note below. The USB to RS-232 Converter is not designed to operate with Windows 95 or Windows NT.
